2 wins for senior women at Wallingford Regatta

The Senior Women's squad had an excellent first major race of the summer season at Wallingford Regatta on Sunday 5th May. For once Dorney was bathed in sunshine, and the crews took full advantage of the excellent conditions to put down a marker for the rest of the season. They came away with 2 convincing wins, in WElite 2x (Fran Rawlins and Anna Townsend - so much for retirement, Anna!) and WIM3 4+ (Claire Ridley, Therese Coen, Gemma Peck, Emily Walters, Nicola Glogowski (cox)). The coxed four also raced in IM2, finishing a creditable 3rd in the final. Full results [...]

Medals for Anna and Fran at DJRC

The Diamond Jubilee Rowing Championships were held on 20-21 October 2012 at Dorney Lake. This was a new regatta, which promised a very high standard of racing as all athletes wishing to trial for the GB Squad this season were required to race in at least one event (excluding 2012 Olympians, although some of them did in fact race for their clubs). The regatta was also run under a new format involving lightweights and open weights all racing in the same event, with only 2 boat classes available on each day.  Fran Rawlins and Anna Roots travelled to Dorney to represent MAA [...]

Wins for Masters and Senior Women at Molesey Regatta

It was touch and go as to whether it would be possible to stage Molesey Regatta this year, as there was a strong flow following the downpours in the week leading up to the regatta on 14 July.  However, Saturday's racing did go ahead and the fast flow made for some interesting starts on the stake boats, with eleven capsizes in all (two fours and several doubles and singles!).  Anna and Lynda benefited from this in the first race in their WMasC 2x event, heading off down the course while their opponents (Ardingly) went in at the first stroke!  They [...]

Senior Women medal at Nat Champs

A small group of just 3 members of the senior women’s squad made the trip to Nottingham for the British Rowing Championships this weekend, and all came home with medals. Due to changes in the way the British Rowing Championships are organised, only a limited number of events were available this weekend - singles, pairs, and coxed fours. Rebekah Edgar and Lorna Brown won the gold medal and the award of National Club Champions in the lightweight women’s pair. They had originally intended to race in both the heavyweight and lightweight pairs events at the regatta, but due to Lorna being a bit under [...]
