Despite having to contend with the wind, the rain, a seriously strong stream and a number of racing timetable changes (!), the Senior Women enjoyed an excellent weekend of racing at Henley Women's Regatta, with 3 crews reaching finals (C4+, Elite Lwt 1x and Elite Lwt 4-) and the Elite Lwt 4- of Beks, Tina, Lorna and Caris coming home with some seriously shiny (special anniversary edition) winners' medals (click link for photo) - CONGRATULATIONS! Race Reports Elite Lwt 4- - WINNERS! (Beks Edgar, Tina Albrecht, Lorna Brown, Caris Marsh) There were just 3 entries in Elite Lwt 4- this year, [...]
Henley Women's Regatta is being held this weekend (Friday 15th June - Sunday 17th June), and we have a large number of MAA crews racing. Please do come along and support them if you can - it promises to be a great weekend of racing, despite the weather forecast! The HWR racing timetable was revised due to fast and difficult stream conditions, and a number of events began with a time trial on Friday, following which the fastest 8 crews/scullers proceeded to side-by-side racing. The latest information regarding race times for MAA crews is detailed below and this post will be updated in light [...]
The Senior Women's squad raced at Metropolitan Regatta at Dorney Lake on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June. Preparations for the Olympic and Paralympic rowing events are well underway at Dorney, and this regatta was one of the last opportunities for club rowers to race on the lake before London 2012 commences. Conditions were quite challenging at times, with a strong headwind throughout the weekend, but the squad produced some good performances in a variety of different boat classes, including second and fourth places in Women's Elite Lightweight Single Sculls for Fran Rawlins and Rachel Drayson respectively. Unfortunately there were [...]
The Senior Women's squad have made a great start to the summer season with wins at both Wallingford Regatta (6 May) and Notts City Regatta (20 May): At Wallingford Beks Edgar and Caris Marsh fought their way through to win by a bow ball in WIM1 2x, making up 3 seconds in the last 500m to sneak the win from Reading RC. At Notts City Beks Edgar and Lorna Brown won WE 2-, Gemma Peck won WIM2 1x, and Alexa Szladowska and Emily Dickinson won WIM3 2x. Congratulations to all of you!
The Senior Women's squad heads off on training camp this weekend, for a 9 day camp in Aix-les-Bains, in southern France. Whilst the weather on the Tideway recently has been akin to summer, the girls will be hoping for some further good weather and an opportunity to focus on technical improvements away from the distractions of everyday life back home in London. This is of course also the time of year that summer crew selection starts in earnest, and seat racing on camp will no doubt involve some closely fought battles. Hopefully there will still be some time for fun though [...]
Congratulations to all those who raced at the Women's Head on Saturday 3rd March, which took place in good conditions (following a bit of a downpour as the crews were boating to warm up!), albeit with the usual headwind and some rather choppy water in the final section from Hammersmith Bridge. There was some great racing, and some close results for the Senior Women's squad crews, who finished 24th, 33rd and 41st respectively, with just 4.5 seconds separating the second and third VIIIs. This illustrates the great depth in the senior group at the moment, and bodes well for the [...]
