A tribute to the life of Geoffrey Potts 1947 – 2017

“People can achieve so much more by having the confidence to work just a little bit harder” Geoffrey Potts Geoffrey Potts knew that life was about margins and sacrifice. In 1974 Geoffrey raced in the lightweight single sculls at the World Championships in Lucerne. He came 4th by a margin of a foot and had the photo finish as a reminder. Kirsty Durman: Running London Marathon

Club member Kirsty Durman will be running the London Marathon to raise money for Mind, a charity supporting people living with mental health problems and their families. The charity provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem, campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Any donation no matter how small, would be most gratefully received!

Anna Roots – Memorial Concert

Starz Watterson, a former member of MAA, moved to Germany 3 years ago to study piano.  Subsequently, about 10 months before Anna died, Anna and Sarah Ulliott (aka Scrasey), previous MAA Captain, visited Starz in Germany. Starz is soon returning to visit the UK in April and will be giving a charity piano recital at St Mary's church in Putney on 22nd April at 7.30pm in Anna's memory.  Part of the aim of the recital is to raise funds for the charity that Anna was cycling for when she died and there is therefore a recommended minimum donation of £10. Weekend sculling group

A new Weekend sculling group has formed and it is open to anyone who wants to go out at set times in a group structure.  The aim of this group is to put in mileage on the water in singles with intermittent coaching with the added safety of going out together. There is a basic requirement for sculling competency: scullers must be able to get to the Pink House and back ‘comfortably’ in a single.
