Mortlake Anglian & Alpha Boat Club - The best place to row on the Tideway!

The Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race

The famous annual Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge universities takes place around Easter each year between Putney and Mortlake, with the finish line just before Chiswick Bridge, almost right outside the MAABC boathouse. The first race took place in 1829 in Henley-on-Thames following a challenge between old school friends. Since the second race in 1836 the contest has taken place in London.

For many years now MAABC has hosted the Cambridge crew prior to the race, and has been set up as part of the Race Finish HQ. We also host the prize-giving after the race each year. If you have watched the agony and the ecstacy of the post-race interviews on television, you will have been looking at the MAABC foreshore below the clubhouse!

The 161st race will take place at 5.50pm on Saturday April 11th 2015 – currently Cambridge lead the series with 81 victories to Oxford’s 78 (with one dead-heat in 1877).

For the first time this year, the women’s boat race will be held on the Tideway and will take place at 4.50pm on Saturday April 11th 2015
