The Senior Women’s squad travelled to Dorney on 1st and 2nd June to race at Met Regatta in glorious sunshine. With just a few weeks to go until Henley Women’s Regatta, this was a good opportunity for this year’s crews to get some high quality racing experience, and start sizing up the oppo for HWR!
On the Saturday, the standout performance of the day was Fran’s 2nd place in Senior 1x, after winning her heat earlier in the day. She was narrowly beaten by Charlotte Taylor of Putney Town, significantly closing the margin from the GB Final Trials and Wallingford Regatta, and beating another trials A finalist, Lizzie Polgreen of Isle of Ely for the first time, so this was an encouraging performance. There were mixed results for the other crews racing – the IM2 4+ (Claire, Therese, Gemma, Emily and Nicola) had a good row in their heat, finishing second, but had a disappointing last 500m in the final, finishing 6th overall; Beks and Starz finished 3rd in Elite 2- and 6th in Senior 2-; Suz and Rachel raced in IM1 2x but unfortunately did not progress to the final; Jenny and Chihiro both raced their singles in IM2 1x, both making it through to the rep, but neither making the final.
On the Sunday, Fran continued her good run of form, combining with Anna to take the win in Elite Lwt 2x by 4 seconds, a convincing win over the composite 2x of Taylor and Polgreen. The IM2 4+ also put in a much better performance, finishing 2nd in the final, with the IM1 4x (Dani, Suz, Vicky and Rachel) finishing 2nd in their heat and then 5th in the final. Beks and Starz also raced again in Senior 2-, this time coming 3rd.
