This year’s regatta will take the same format as last years in order to encourage everyone to participate. Instead of making up scratch crews and racing taking place over heats and finals as we have done historically , we propose to run one Head Race style race with entries accepted in any boat class irrelevant of which group you normally row or scull in. So whichever squad you are a part of, and whether you want to race in a single scull or a crew boat, we would encourage you to come and race and then afterwards enjoy a BBQ [...]
On a rare sunny and flat day at Holme Pierrepoint the annual Home International Regatta took place, a private match between selected squads for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales with Mortlake having representation in the English and Welsh teams (full details at the end of this post). The first race of the day with Mortlake interest was the the Lwt W 2- with the MAA crew from the summer season lining up in opposition with Starz Watterston in the England boat and Beks Edgar in the Welsh. It proved an exciting start to the day with a close race between [...]
Henley Masters Regatta brought a fantastic two days of racing for the Mortlake women with a record number of entries from the club, including 3 singles, a composite double, 3 quads and a composite 8. And great success for the women Masters racing group who marked the end to a fabulous season with 2 wins! Racing started on the Friday, with mainly heats and some semifinals. The WMas B4x, made up of Emma Donnelly, Anna Ramsden, Kat Rolfsman and Jo Gapper, were in a draw of 9 boats and were unfortunately drawn for the initial eliminator heat in the 4th race of [...]
Fran Rawlins and Anna Townsend won the Senior Lwt 2x trophy at Henley Women's Regatta yesterday, beating Wallingford RC by an "easily" verdict in very blustery conditions - congratulations! The rest of the Senior Women's squad was also in action, and raced well in difficult conditions. Sadly no other wins to report this year, but Beks and Starz made the final of the Elite 2- event, and the Senior 4x were unlucky in drawing the eventual winners, Nottingham RC, in the first round. A more detailed report will hopefully follow soon!
The Masters Women’s squad had yet another good day of racing at Marlow Regatta, held at Eton Dorney on Sunday 16th June. Following on from their success at British National Masters, Laura Campbell, Chrissie Greenhalgh, Anna Ramsden & Jo Gapper competed in straight finals at both WMas C IM3 4x and WMas C 4x. The MAA crew finished ahead of Wallingford and Ardingly to win the IM3 event and, then improving on their previous times at Nottingham, gained a convincing win against Falcon in the championship level race. The girls received medals for both the events and were awarded the Iris [...]
The Senior Women's squad travelled to Dorney on 1st and 2nd June to race at Met Regatta in glorious sunshine. With just a few weeks to go until Henley Women's Regatta, this was a good opportunity for this year's crews to get some high quality racing experience, and start sizing up the oppo for HWR! On the Saturday, the standout performance of the day was Fran's 2nd place in Senior 1x, after winning her heat earlier in the day. She was narrowly beaten by Charlotte Taylor of Putney Town, significantly closing the margin from the GB Final Trials and Wallingford [...]
