The weekend of the 9th of November saw MAABC take part in the 5k head race at Kingston SBH. After several entries were rejected by the organisers due to entry categories not having sufficient interest it was left to Joy Skipper and Lisa Kallal to race in their Vet C 2x to compete in the first division. Putting in another storming race they managed to win the category beating their opposition by 37 seconds. The MAABC women followed up their recent pairs head success with wins at Teddington Head on 2 November In the morning division Jenny Bizley secured a win in her Masters A/B 1x category with Lisa Kallal finishing a close 2nd in the same category The afternoon saw Mel Court Smith (racing under Walbrook but now represents MAABC) secure a win in her IM2 1x category with Jenny Bizley finishing her second head race of the day in 3rd in the same category (worth noting that Jenny had become unwell between her first and second race but decided to soldier on [...]
Following on from success at the pairs head a number of Masters crews competed at Weybridge Silver Sculls this weekend. Laura Campbell was on good form winning WMas D1x. Katarina Rolfsman and Anna Ramsden had a fast race to win the WMas B/C2x event and achieving the fastest women’s double time of the whole day. Also racing were Jo Gapper & Chrissie Greenhalgh, who came in 2nd in WMas B/C2x. Alice Poole & Louise Pattison raced at WMas E/F 2x coming in 4th out of 6 crews, making good progress on previous racing achievements.
This year’s regatta will take the same format as last years in order to encourage everyone to participate. Instead of making up scratch crews and racing taking place over heats and finals as we have done historically , we propose to run one Head Race style race with entries accepted in any boat class irrelevant of which group you normally row or scull in. So whichever squad you are a part of, and whether you want to race in a single scull or a crew boat, we would encourage you to come and race and then afterwards enjoy a BBQ [...]
On a rare sunny and flat day at Holme Pierrepoint the annual Home International Regatta took place, a private match between selected squads for England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales with Mortlake having representation in the English and Welsh teams (full details at the end of this post). The first race of the day with Mortlake interest was the the Lwt W 2- with the MAA crew from the summer season lining up in opposition with Starz Watterston in the England boat and Beks Edgar in the Welsh. Henley Masters Regatta brought a fantastic two days of racing for the Mortlake women with a record number of entries from the club, including 3 singles, a composite double, 3 quads and a composite 8. And great success for the women Masters racing group who marked the end to a fabulous season with 2 wins! Racing started on the Friday, with mainly heats and some semifinals.
