MAABC Masters Win at Molesey Regatta

MAABC crews, some young and others a bit older, raced at Molesey Regatta on 21st July with some success. It was an extremely hot day that was a challenge to all who took part. Our men's masters won F/G/H quads beating Thames in the first race and Kingston in the final. In both races the MAABC Masters H crew dominated and won comfortably. The crew consisted of Peter Hoile, Colin Cracknell, Keith Mahony and Andy Napier. This was the fourth Summer regatta entered by our men's masters in a G/H quad and they have won in three regattas, Borne, [...]

Metropolitan Regatta: MAABC Senior Women hotter than actual surface of the Sun

The weather may have been roasting this past weekend as hundreds of rowers descended upon Dorney Lake for Metropolitan Regatta, but the MAABC Senior Women's Squad was hotter. Taking advantage of the 3 weeks of the year when Britain actually experiences sunshine, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June saw 5 MAABC crews competing across 4 different boat classes (plus an MAABC guest star rowing in a composite crew).  Knowing this was their last chance to experience competitive lane racing before Henley Women's Regatta, the girls came ready to eat, nap and row really, really fast. Saturday Saturday morning started nice and early [...]

MAABC Success at the Indoor Rowing Championships

Captain Nicola Dale writes that two members of MAABC won at the British Indoor Rowing Championships last Saturday with a third member also doing particularly well! Kaila Engelsman won the Open Women's event in a cracking time of 7:01.6 even writing this makes me feel exhausted.  We are incredibly proud of this and perhaps we should consider naming one of the new ergos after Kaila.  There is an excellent article on Kaila's success and her ambitions on the WeRow Life website. Additionally Jennifer Aitken came in 4th which was a superb effort with a time 7:19.1  - and thirdly Natalie [...]

Captain’s February Blog

After a bit of time off the air waves as we had Christmas and New Year and horrible water.  However painful it must be for all of you, I am back with my ramblings and observations as there is much activity going on at MAABC including some news about mixed crew racing -  firstly, you may have noticed that we are continuing to tidy up the boating area and fleet, we have said goodbye to the Phoebe Mason and that has gone to Putney High School – we will be focusing on the outside racks to tidy up the boats.  [...]

Flaming June – Good luck to all Racers and Supporters from Captain Nicola

Dear All, Hope you are all well and getting excited about the Summer Racing season and the Euro Football Championships (or not!) – I am sure we will be watching some of the matches at the Club reminiscing about 1966 when we won something.  I am proud to say that our results thus far this season totally eclipses Roy’s results. Most importantly, we are hosting Barnes and Mortlake Regatta this upcoming Saturday at the Club.  Very annoying that British Masters is also on that weekend – can everyone who is not racing please give as much support to the Regatta [...]

Exciting news from the Captain – she actually won something!

Thank you for the profuse outpouring of congratulatory presents of champagne and flowers which doubtless are in transit after the magnificent win at Twickenham Regatta on Saturday.  Seriously please do not spend too much -  but again if you want to be in contention for athlete of the year you know what to do!   Turning to matters which are much closer to my heart we have had two weekends of racing which is marvellous - what is most encouraging is the massive steps forward which we as a club are making.  Gosh the only thing I was a little [...]
