Captain’s February Blog

After a bit of time off the air waves as we had Christmas and New Year and horrible water.  However painful it must be for all of you, I am back with my ramblings and observations as there is much activity going on at MAABC including some news about mixed crew racing -  firstly, you may have noticed that we are continuing to tidy up the boating area and fleet, we have said goodbye to the Phoebe Mason and that has gone to Putney High School – we will be focusing on the outside racks to tidy up the boats.  [...]

Autumn Notes September 26th

I do hope you all had a good weekend.  I thought I would share some jottings about our first foray on the Autumn Sculling Heads circuit – first of all thanks to all who participated in boat loading and looking after our valuable kit!  The most important aspect of travelling to events.  Please acknowledge the time that Merv spent driving he did not leave the head course until at least 5 pm and I would like to thank him personally on behalf of us all.  We cannot compete or be prepared for these events without enormous back up whether its [...]

Flaming June – Good luck to all Racers and Supporters from Captain Nicola

Dear All, Hope you are all well and getting excited about the Summer Racing season and the Euro Football Championships (or not!) – I am sure we will be watching some of the matches at the Club reminiscing about 1966 when we won something.  I am proud to say that our results thus far this season totally eclipses Roy’s results. Most importantly, we are hosting Barnes and Mortlake Regatta this upcoming Saturday at the Club.  Very annoying that British Masters is also on that weekend – can everyone who is not racing please give as much support to the Regatta [...]

Exciting news from the Captain – she actually won something!

Thank you for the profuse outpouring of congratulatory presents of champagne and flowers which doubtless are in transit after the magnificent win at Twickenham Regatta on Saturday.  Seriously please do not spend too much -  but again if you want to be in contention for athlete of the year you know what to do!   Turning to matters which are much closer to my heart we have had two weekends of racing which is marvellous - what is most encouraging is the massive steps forward which we as a club are making.  Gosh the only thing I was a little [...]

Mortlake Veterans training camp – Mimizan, France, May 2014

Quote from coach Ben - “I love working with these girls, who have a really positive attitude. This was a great camp and we now have an excellent base to start the regatta season with". Mortlake and Quintin may share a beach but to date we haven't shared training camps. Quintin’s camps have a reputation for going to scenic places and for providing a mix of serious training with a holiday -  recipe which suits veterans well. And so when we were asked us on this year's trip, which involved flying to Bordeaux and over the early May [...]
