Captain’s ramblings

Afternoon all ’ hope you all enjoyed the terrific weather on Saturday – just as an fyi this time last year when we held Borne Regatta at Mortlake we had to anchor our gazebo down with weights to stop it flying off the balcony – so it was so enjoyable to have the regatta bathed in sunshine for a change. I would like to thank Nina and her team for a fabulous regatta WOW such a lot of work from unsung heroes! Thank you.  The Club has had such a lot of activity that I can hardly keep track of [...]

Anna Roots – Memorial Concert

Starz Watterson, a former member of MAA, moved to Germany 3 years ago to study piano.  Subsequently, about 10 months before Anna died, Anna and Sarah Ulliott (aka Scrasey), previous MAA Captain, visited Starz in Germany. Starz is soon returning to visit the UK in April and will be giving a charity piano recital at St Mary's church in Putney on 22nd April at 7.30pm in Anna's memory.  Part of the aim of the recital is to raise funds for the charity that Anna was cycling for when she died and there is therefore a recommended minimum donation of £10. There [...]

In particular Giselle and her team of catering volunteers who slaved away all day – thank you so much. We [...]

Mortlake Veterans training camp – Mimizan, France, May 2014

Quote from coach Ben - “I love working with these girls, who have a really positive attitude. This was a great camp and we now have an excellent base to start the regatta season with". Mortlake and Quintin may share a beach but to date we haven't shared training camps. Quintin’s camps have a reputation for going to scenic places and for providing a mix of serious training with a holiday -  recipe which suits veterans well. And so when we were asked us on this year's trip, which involved flying to Bordeaux and over the early May [...]

On the weekend of 18/19 October MAABC were represented by Fran Rawlins racing in a composite lightweight double with Charlotte Taylor of PTRC. After a solid time trial on the Saturday morning the double placing them in the A/B semi final they put in an outstanding race to be the only lightweight crew to make the A final beating the GB lightweight Squad 2x in the process who were forced into the B final. As they were the only lightweight crew in the A Final they went into the race already assured of being crowned British Champions and took the [...]
